Why Online?

Telehealth (virtual therapy, online counseling, remote assessment & consultation) offers a practical and convenient way to receive services.

What are the benefits?

  • Telehealth is currently required due to safety and public health concerns amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

  • Telehealth enables me to provide services to more people, in a broader range of locations, including more rural areas where access to quality healthcare is a significant barrier to people receiving the care that they need and deserve. I am able to see clients in the states of North Carolina and Florida.

  • Telehealth/online services provide the same level and quality care from the comfort and privacy of your own home.  No need for transportation or the hustle and bustle of getting to a doctor's office - which can be absolutely crucial for some of our older clients and those living with brain health challenges who often have ambulation and/or transportation issues.

  • For therapy with younger adults, it offers a solution to the challenge of trying to fit "you" time for therapy into an already busy schedule that is bursting at the seams and cannot afford the extra time of leaving work or home to venture to an office for an hour-long therapy session.

  • It allows us to more easily and readily connect with caregivers and the support system or "village" of those living with brain health challenges.

What states can you see patients?

  •  Dr. Renfroe can see patients by way of telehealth in 28+ states:

How does it work?

  •  Super simple.  All you need is an internet connection, access to e-mail, and a smartphone, tablet, or computer with a webcam/microphone built-in (most modern devices already have this capability.)  Your personal (and secure!) video link will be sent to your e-mail and you will be reminded right before your appointment. No need for any downloads or software.

Can we just use the phone?

  • For services to be as similar as possible to in-person visits, we really truly need the video component.  We need to see you! There is so much valuable information and social reward in connecting face-to-face, even virtually.  The studies that have been conducted that show equal efficacy of telehealth compared to in-person services are based on video and audio connection. For some folks, phone sessions can be arranged on an as needed basis.

Is telehealth appropriate for everyone?

  • You'd be surprised how many people prefer it now! And research is showing that it is comparable to in-person services in terms of quality of care and outcome.  However, there may be some individuals for whom telehealth is not appropriate, depending on a person's level of functioning.  Sometimes, profound hearing issues or severe dementia can raise a challenge.  Feel free to contact us for a 10-minute consultation to discuss whether telehealth is appropriate for you.

Is there an option for in-person?

  • For folks where telehealth is not appropriate, we offer select in-person appointments in Greensboro, NC (at our location at 717 Green Valley Rd. Suite 200.)  Priority is given to patients undergoing neuropsychological testing services for the purposes of diagnosing cognitive impairment or dementia.
